After a Gu Master successfully ascends and becomes a Gu Immortal a small separate world made up of dao marks[1] and called a blessed land, will form inside their immortal aperture. A blessed land generally does not occupy space in the outside world yet is providing abundant space inside of it. The size or grade of the blessed land corresponds with the accumulations of the Gu Master before becoming a Gu Immortal. The primeval essence inside it is often dozens of times thicker and denser than in the outside world.

The time flow inside a blessed land is most often many times that of the outside world, for example, a blessed land with a time ratio of 1:30 would mean that if a day passes in the outside world, 30 days would pass inside the blessed land.

Forming a Blessed Land[]

Throughout their time as mortals, Gu Masters experience all kinds of things during their cultivation and pursuit to understand the Great Dao, those translate into the attainment in the path they are cultivating primarily and determine their future prospects when becoming a Gu Immortal. Depending on a Gu Master's accumulations and other factors like luck or their destiny, a unique blessed land of varying grades can form inside their immortal aperture. The blessed land's topography is closely connected to the Gu Immortal's specific situation.[2] A blessed land can be elevated to become a grotto-heaven when the Gu Immortal reaches rank 8, and a grotto-heaven can also "fall" to become a blessed land again.

Blessed Land Grade[]

Blessed lands are divided into four grades according to the space they provide: small grade, medium grade, large grade, and super grade. The grade is determined by the attainment and accumulation of a Gu Master. A Gu Master with a high attainment level in their chosen path would receive a higher grade blessed land than one with a lower attainment level.

Grade area [km²] area [mi²]
Small ≤ 2,000 ≤ 772
Medium 2,700 - 4,000 1,042 - 1,544
Large 4,700 - 6,000 1,814 - 2,316
Super 6,700 - 13,000 2,586 - 5,019

Space[]

The space of a forming blessed land is further affected by the corresponding space path attainment of the Gu Master. The higher the attainment in space path the greater the resulting space inside the blessed land after their immortal ascension.

The space of an already formed blessed land can be further increased with space path methods, advancing to a higher rank or by annexing other blessed lands.

Time[]

The time dilution of a forming blessed land is further affected by the corresponding time path attainment of the Gu Master as well as the grade of the blessed land itself. The higher the attainment in time path and or the greater the grade of the blessed land is, the faster the time passes inside it after their immortal ascension.

There are time path methods to accelerate, decelerate, and halt the time of a blessed land. Placing the immortal aperture in the outside world will slow down the time inside the blessed land to almost a 1:1 ratio (this also applies after the Gu Immortal dies and the immortal aperture "falls" on the ground of the outside world).

The Uniqueness of Different Blessed Lands[]

Even if two blessed lands are formed by two ascending Gu Masters of the same path, their blessed land will be unique in every aspect. Due to the different life experiences, some deeper some shallower, they would receive a specific grade and corresponding space of a blessed land with differing time ratios. Their understanding of other paths determines the dao mark composition inside their blessed land, and with each passing calamity and tribulation this composition is further diversified. Different paths yield different blessed lands that are specialized to grow and foster different resources, for example, a water path Gu Master would form a blessed land which is rich in water path dao marks and has little landmass but a lot more water, in comparison to other path's blessed lands, forming lots of lakes and even little seas. This kind of blessed land is specialized in growing water path resources and aquatic lifeforms. The shape of blessed land does also differ, for example, an enslavement path blessed land that specializes in growing flying beasts has limited horizontal space but a lot of vertical space while one specialized in keeping ground based beasts has more horizontal space and limited vertical space (this example applies to other paths as well). A few examples are as follows:

Furthermore, there are unique and qualitative properties that could further affect the blessed land, like weather changes and astronomical phenomena like a day and night cycle. Those which display such effects are first-rate blessed lands, indicating a deep foundation with countless dao marks. Those effects are mostly known as characteristics of grotto-heavens.

Special Blessed Lands[]

Dead Blessed Land[]

If a Gu Immortal turns into an immortal zombie their blessed land will turn into a "dead blessed land" filled with death energy, the land will become desolate and start to disintegrate into nothingness until completely vanishing. While in this state no calamities and tribulations will appear and every resource which is placed inside the blessed land would after some time accumulate death energy to a point where the resource would inadvertently start to rot, corrode, or break down. The disintegration of the blessed land can be slowed down by spreading the Black Oil, found in the Earth Trench, over the blessed land. A dead blessed land is also unable to annex other blessed lands.

Pieced together Blessed Lands[]

Many Gu Immortal factions and forces possess one or more public blessed lands which are oftentimes pieced together with parts of different blessed lands (sometimes contributed by the Gu Immortal of said force) and therefore don't possess a land spirit. Those blessed lands are comparatively inferior to a "pure" blessed land having a lower production rate or produce inferior quality resources due to the lower amount of dao marks. Public Blessed Lands are typically placed on the ground to take in heaven and earth qi to stabilize the space inside as well as slowing down time to delay the arrival of calamities and tribulations. [3]

Entering a Blessed Land[]

A Gu Immortal can only enter their own personal blessed land after having it placed down in the outside world. Due to the intimate relationship Gu Immortals have with their personal blessed land, which closely dictates their cultivation and survival, only a select few trusted people can enter it with their permission. Gu Immortals can open and close an entrance regardless of if their blessed land is with them or placed as their immortal aperture in the outside world. If the blessed land is within their master it is nigh impossible to enter it, but if it is placed down there are certain methods, like the immortal killer move Force Intrusion or the use of an Upper Extreme Heavenly Eagle, to enter it. There are also naturally occurring openings called loopholes which can appear if the blessed land suffered tremendous damage and or depletes its heaven and earth qi, and therefore becomes unstable, most often this happens due to the might of calamities and tribulations. Loopholes can also appear after a long passage of time and accumulate in number, allowing outsiders to exploit them and enter the blessed land. Strong enough calamities and tribulations or space path beasts can also directly destroy parts of the immortal aperture walls and expose a direct opening into the blessed land.

Due to the high count of dao marks higher-ranked Gu Immortals can not enter lower-ranked blessed lands or else they would be inflating them, attracting the winds of assimilation, and causing their destruction, for example, a rank 8 Gu Immortal can not enter a rank 6 blessed land without destroying it.

Restrictions inside a Blessed Land[]

The master of the blessed land, be it Gu Immortal or land spirit, can suppress the usage of mortal Gu of others who entered their blessed land without taking precautions against it, thereby greatly inhibiting them from wreaking havoc inside it as well as preventing them from self-destructing their mortal Gu. This can be circumvented by methods such as using One's Own Way Immortal Gu.

Some Gu Immortals design inheritance trials inside their blessed land, which after their death, tests the inheritor by only allowing them to use specific Gu.

Management[]

The main use of a blessed land is the accumulation and management of a diverse array of resources. Gu Immortals strive to increase their cultivation and this is done so by amassing resources of their main path which helps in attracting calamities and tribulations of the same path but also to nourish and feed the lifeforms inside it like plants, beasts, and Gu. Gu Immortals would try to create suitable and self-sustaining food chains and environments in which resources would grow and prosper, and could be later sold or exchanged for other resources with other Gu Immortals in auctions or places like Treasure Yellow Heaven. Even variant humans or humans are bought, sold and used as slaves to tend to specific tasks assigned by the Gu Immortal. The blessed land would also produce a set amount of immortal essence beads, their quality is dependent on the rank of the Gu Immortal and the amount of generated beads is dependent on the grade of the blessed land as well as the "life-force" and quality of the resources inside it. Often times the Gu Immortal needs to place down their blessed land in order to enter it and personally manage resources if they don't have a special method that allows them to circumvent it. To observe the changes inside the blessed land they will often leave a will there. The general steps to develop a blessed land are listed below.

  1. The initial stage is when the Gu Immortal creates a self-sustaining food chain to feed his Immortal Gu.
  2. The middle stage is when the Gu Immortal develops other resource production cycles and generates enough resources to sell them for immortal essence stones or exchange for other resources.
  3. The upper stage would be raising variant humans or humans inside the blessed land and use them for labor like caring for specific resources or refining Gu.

Those steps can be further divided into seven levels:[4]

  1. Establishing mortal resource points, to produce mortal Gu, mortal Gu materials, and ordinary beasts and plants.
  2. Creating immortal resource points which satisfy the feeding of Immortal Gu.
  3. Creating a completely self-sustaining ecosystem by planting immortal plants and raising immortal beasts.
  4. Producing enough resources for external trade and earning profits.
  5. Producing Immortal Gu naturally inside the immortal aperture.
  6. Raising variant humans and humans, and produce Gu Immortals among them.
  7. Producing Lifespan Gu.

A few examples of resource management are:

  • Placing spirit springs inside the blessed land to increase the concentration of primeval energy to promote the natural creation of Gu.
  • Rearing beast groups to sell them whole or parts of them.
  • Distributing soils like Diamond Soil to increase the ground's fertility and planting trees, plants and other greenery.
  • Terraforming the environment by digging lake beds for lakes, and trenches for rivers, or creating artificial mountains and caves.

(Cultivation resources are but not limited to immortal essence stones, 'parts of' beasts, 'parts of' plants, mortal Gu, Immortal Gu, knowledge about grooming and nurturing beasts and plants, knowledge about beasts, knowledge of killer moves or Gu formations, knowledge such as maps and information about inheritances)

Heaven and Earth Qi[]

Depending on the amount and type of resources inside the blessed land it would expend heaven and earth qi, for example, legendary mountains like Dang Hun Mountain expend earth qi at a faster rate than normal mountains do. The Gu Immortal has to replenish the heaven and earth qi inside it by placing the blessed land in the outside world specifically in the region the Gu Master advanced to Gu Immortal, for example, a Northern Plains Gu Immortal can only replenish the heaven and earth qi in Northern Plains. If a Northern Plains' Gu Immortal tries to replenish it in a foreign region the heaven and earth qi of that region would cause instability (due to their slightly different properties in another region) and may lead to the destruction of the blessed land. This also applies if the blessed land forms after the Gu Immortal dies in a foreign region.[5] Some places may have lots of earth qi but lack heaven qi and are therefore unsuitable to place ones blessed land on.[6]

Public Blessed Lands[]

The term public blessed land is a term loosely used to describe any blessed land which is used by more than one person, oftentimes by large Gu Immortal forces or factions. Public Blessed Lands can be formed from either the immortal aperture of a dead Gu Immortal or being pieced together by multiple immortals. There are two types of management. Either an individual or representation of a force managed their own space and cultivate their own resource or the public blessed land was managed by a single representation of multiple force under (typically strict) supervision. Public Blessed Land formed out of a single aperture have certain advantages over the other type, they have more homogenous dao marks and may have a land spirit. Since Land Spirits have overall greater control and awareness over their territory [7], their existence is very convenient for the owners, especially if they haven't reach immortal realm themselves.

Calamities and Tribulations[]

The more "surplus" in the form of resources a blessed land possesses the greater the might of the calamities and tribulations which are going to appear. With each calamity and tribulation, resources are destroyed and have to be amassed again, therefore it is vital to take precautions and decrease the losses as much as possible. Because calamities and tribulations are highly unpredictable it is difficult to plan against them but one option is to take the resources out of the blessed land before undergoing a calamity or tribulation and thereby weakening the might of it (but also losing out on potential dao mark gains). A Gu Immortal will not always undergo a calamity or tribulation of his chosen path, for example, a water path Gu Immortal can happen to undergo a cloud path calamity or tribulation and gain cloud path dao marks, which would allow him to increase his production capabilities of cloud path resources in the future (this applies to every path). Calamities and tribulations can be skipped by annexing other blessed lands.

Destruction[]

If either the Gu Immortal decides to destroy their blessed land or the blessed lands exceeds a certain threshold of its integrity, it will be destroyed by the winds of assimilation and everything inside it will, without fail, be destroyed and ground into dust, leaving nothing but the most basic primeval essence behind. Not even Gu Immortals are spared from this. However, not everyone can trigger the winds of assimilation.[8]

After Death[]

If a Gu Immortal dies and his personal blessed land is with him at the time, the blessed land would "fall" onto the place where the Gu Immortal's corpse (specifically stomach area) is at the time, similar to being placed down. The blessed land with all the resources and Gu inside would remain at this place and normally undergo calamities and tribulations there, but cease to produce immortal essence beads leaving only the remaining beads which have gone unused by the Gu Immortal.

Land Spirit[]

The major difference to being placed down is, that the blessed land could form a land spirit that would be its new master. The conditions to form a land spirit are a deep enough foundation of the blessed land, one or more unfulfilled obsessions of the Gu Immortal before death and when dying some of their soul and or will needs to remain to carry the obsession, if those are met the blessed land's heavenly power and the obsessions of the Gu Immortal would combine and form a land spirit. A land spirit is not a human but rather a similar existence to that of a Gu Immortal. They can take the appearance of a human, plant, beast, or even an object like a brass bell. The blessed land to them is like a body for any other creature and if it's damaged or parts of it cut off, it's nothing short of losing a metaphorical limb for them, which they are sure to express as sadness, regret and even by crying.

Personality[]

Although the land spirit carries the memories of their "former life" their personality can either be very similar or greatly differ from the Gu Immortal it originated from, even as far as going as to create a land spirit with two personas with different personalities which can express different feelings. Traits that are shared by all land spirits are that they have an obsession that needs to be fulfilled in order to inherit the blessed land, some of which are easily solvable even for mortals and others are virtually impossible, even for high ranking Gu Immortals. Another characteristical trait for land spirits is that they are inherently not able to lie, which does not mean that they can not disclose information (keep a secret) or if they believe the information which they are sharing to be the truth. Their thought process is more rigid and highly biased, so any request to a masterless land spirit which it does not agree on will also in the future fall onto deaf ears (as long as it stays masterless). They also have lowered intelligence compared to their living counterpart which makes it easier to scheme against them. Their personality towards their master is one of the closest possible, affectionately revering them and giving their absolute best to please them not keeping any secrets from them, as well as feeling sorrow if misfortune befalls their master.

Capabilities[]

The capabilities of a land spirit greatly differ from one another and are heavily reliant upon the dao mark composition, starting from their ability to move, some are bound or rooted in one place of the blessed land while others can move freely and are even able to teleport inside the blessed land (due to high number of space path dao marks). Land spirits generally have the ability to oversee all of what happens inside the blessed land. They can manage resources and use Gu and are therefore able to connect to Treasure Yellow Heaven to buy and sell resources as well as undergo calamities and tribulations on their own. Their battle capabilities are on par with Gu Immortals and sometimes even exceeding them when taking their familiarity and terrain advantage of the blessed land into account as well as their ability to restrict the usage of mortal Gu of any invading enemy. If the land spirit is desperate enough and doesn't want to see the blessed land fall into the hands of an enemy they can decide to self-detonate alongside the blessed land.

Imprisoning or Destroying a Land Spirit[]

If the current master wishes that the blessed land is not inherited by others he can use certain methods and Gu like Earth Prison Immortal Gu and Earth Net Immortal Gu to trap and imprison the land spirit.

Killer moves such as Blood Light Spirit Suppression can also be used to suppress the land spirit and allow the Gu Immortal to forcefully annex their blessed land.

Sometimes the obsession of a land spirit can not be fulfilled and in return, the blessed land can not be inherited, if such a situation is present Gu Immortals have the choice to destroy the land spirit but in doing so they have to take special precautions to ensure that the land spirit does not destroy the blessed land in desperation.

Land Spirits are also destroyed in the process of their blessed land being annexed.

Annexing Blessed Lands[]

Gu Immortals can annex the blessed land (or grotto-heaven) of other Gu Immortals but this comes with very stringent requirements:

  1. Only a greater blessed land can annex a smaller one.
  2. Dead blessed lands can't annex other blessed lands (including dead blessed lands).
  3. Annexing a blessed land requires high enough attainment level of the path corresponding to the blessed land. To annex a rank 6 earth path blessed land, one needs to have at least master level attainment in earth path, for a rank 7 it's grandmaster level (and for rank 8 grotto-heavens great grandmaster level attainment).

If the requirements are met and the Gu Immortal decides to annex a blessed land he would receive a number of advantages.

  1. The space of the annexed blessed land would be added to their blessed land and all the resources inside the annexed blessed land will be transferred alongside.
  2. They would receive a portion of the blessed lands dao marks (the received amount may vary depending on how many dao marks are conflicting with their own blessed land).[9]
  3. They will skip a number of calamities and tribulations (the number may vary depending on how many calamities and tribulations the annexed blessed land has undergone).

The only downside is the loss of any land spirit that was previously inhabiting the annexed blessed land and the loss of future potential growth with the skipped calamities and tribulations (receiving fewer dao marks by annexing than through a calamity or tribulation).

Unconventional Methods[]

Here are a few unconventional and unorthodox methods that are only known by a few which either go against the general consensus of the majority of Gu Immortals or are otherwise noteworthy:

  • A blessed land (immortal aperture) can be moved after it "fell" by transplanting it with the use of special Gu formations and Immortal Gu.
  • The type of calamities and tribulations can be influenced by using methods like the killer move Immortal Tribulation Tempering Aperture to increase the probability to receive the desired dao marks.
  • A Gu Immortal can place his immortal aperture in the outside world and turn himself into an immortal zombie, thereby preventing his blessed land from becoming a dead blessed land, for example, like Blue did.
  • Everything that has to do with the Sovereign Immortal Aperture in general.
